What is the Best Way to Identify a Gifted Student? Teachers are successful in identifying gifted children only 45% of the time (Gear, 1976). Group IQ tests are about as successful. The single best method is testing on a standardized, individually administered IQ test such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scales and the Stanford-Binet Intelligence Scale. Because not all gifted children are equally talented in all academic areas and some may have specific learning disabilities that interfere with their potential, achievement tests are used to supplement the IQ test. (Sattler, 1992). |
