Gifted children should receive education at a level commensurate with their abilities and interest. (1)This might mean finding a school that will place your academically advanced child in a class that is at an advanced level despite the age of the child.(2) It may mean exposing your child to a class of other gifted children whose abilities range from minimally gifted to highly gifted.(3) It may mean keeping your child in a regular program with supplemental enrichment being given in the areas that the child is gifted. Other factors should be considered besides the academic curriculum. The fit of a child to a school also depends upon social and emotional factors. Your child should be an active participant in the selection process. These concerns may be discussed with Dr. Todd.
